Afternoon Paddle on Woonasquatucket Reservoir (Stump Pond) - Saturday, July 12, 11 AM

Spend an afternoon paddling on the largest and least developed reservoir in the watershed! We'll put in on the west side of Woonasquatucket Reservoir in Smithfield and paddle from there up to the north end, where the Woonasquatucket River flows into the reservoir in Mowry Conservation Area, for a picnic lunch (bring your own lunch). We may also explore the southern arm towards Mountaindale Reservoir. The trip is approximately 2 1/2; miles long, not including the southern arm. Children are welcome as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

We have some canoes and kayaks available so you don't need your own, but if you have your own it will help us if you bring it. If you do bring your own canoe or kayak you MUST bring life jackets for EVERYONE who will be in the boat.

$10/person suggested donation if you are using one of our boats. If you are using your own boat, donations are welcome. Thanks!

Call or email Bruce at the Watershed Council at (401) 351-5747 for details, directions and to sign up. Advance sign-up is required so that we can determine how many boats we need and keep the trip from getting too large.

Evening Paddle On Greystone Mill Pond - Thursday, July 17, 5:30 PM

Join us for an evening paddle on Greystone Mill Pond, on the border of Johnston, North Providence and Smithfield. We will put in at Cricket Park in Johnston and paddle up the pond for about 5/8 mile and then turn around and paddle back to the starting point. Greystone Mill Pond is a narrow, winding pond with many twists and turns. We often see ducks, herons and other birds here. Children are welcome as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

We have some canoes and kayaks available so you don't need your own, but if you have your own it will help us if you bring it. If you do bring your own canoe or kayak you MUST bring life jackets for EVERYONE who will be in the boat.

Evening Paddle on the Lower Woonasquatucket - Thursday, September 4, 5:30 PM

Join us for an evening paddle on the lower Woonasquatucket and see the city from a new angle! We will start at the landing on South Water Street and paddle up the Woonasquatucket River to near Eagle Street before turning around and heading back down to South Water Street. This trip will give you a new perspective on the city as we paddle past some of the mills that built this city as well as through Waterplace Park and past downtown Providence. While this is definitely an urban river, we have seen red-tailed hawks, great blue herons, Peregrine Falcons, and many other birds in this stretch of the river. The complete round trip is about 3 1/2; miles.

While there is some current in the river in this area it is not enough to make it too hard to paddle upstream if you time the tides right, which are dates our designed to do. We have some canoes and kayaks available so you don't need your own, but if you have your own it will help us if you bring it. If you do bring your own canoe or kayak you MUST bring life jackets for EVERYONE who will be in the boat.

Please bring a flashlight as well for this paddle. We will be getting back to the put-in at around sunset and Coast Guard regulations require that all canoes and kayaks on the water after sunset have a flashlight on board.

$10/person suggested donation if you are using one of our boats. If you are using your own boat, donations are welcome. Thanks!

Join us for an evening paddle on scenic Georgiaville Pond in Smithfield. We will put in at the historic Smith-Appleby House and do a two mile circuit around the pond. This will take us past the pretty, pine tree covered islands at the south end of the pond and take us to the outlet where can stop and look at the rocky gorge that forms the outlet channel at the south end of the pond. Children are welcome as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

We have some canoes and kayaks available so you don't need your own, but if you have your own it will help us if you bring it. If you do bring your own canoe or kayak you MUST bring life jackets for EVERYONE who will be in the boat.
