Position: Woonasquatucket River Greenway - Summer Jr River Ranger

The Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (WRWC) is seeking 4 highly motivated individuals who live near the Woonasquatucket River Greenway in Providence to join our Ranger team for 6 weeks this summer. Junior Rangers will report to our Greenway Manager and skilled Senior River Rangers and assist with maintenance of the parks and bike path along Woonasquatucket River Greenway.

Rangers work 21 hours a week (three 7-hour days) for 6 weeks spanning from July 3rd through the end of August. Daily tasks may include park observations, weeding, mulching, picking up litter, watering plants, sweeping, raking, river clean ups, tree pruning, fence repair, working with volunteers, and graffiti removal. River Rangers are stewards of the Greenway and are responsible for greeting people in the community and encouraging appropriate use of the outdoor space.

At the conclusion of the 6 week summer program, the WRWC may keep exceptional Rangers on for additional months of work until the end of the season, pending available funding.

The Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (WRWC) is seeking individuals with landscaping and maintenance experience, and strong interpersonal skills, to fill 2017 Summer Senior River Ranger positions, a 6-week summer position spanning from early July through the end of August. Senior River Rangers report to the Greenway Leadership Team and assist with the oversight of unskilled Junior River Rangers and volunteer groups to maintain the parks and bike path along Woonasquatucket River Greenway. Daily tasks will include operating a stand up mower, weeding and mulching, litter pick up, watering plants, sweeping, raking, river clean ups, tree pruning, fence repair, painting, and graffiti removal. River Rangers are stewards of the Greenway and are responsible for greeting people in the community and encouraging the appropriate use of this beloved outdoor space. After the 6 week summer program, the WRWC may keep exceptional Rangers on for additional months of work until the end of the season, pending available funding.

Position: Teaching Assistant /Environmental Educator

The Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (WRWC) is seeking an Educator to support all aspects of our educational and outreach programs. For over 10 years, the WRWC has delivered environmental educational programming to youth and adults in the effort to revitalize the Woonasquatucket River and its surrounding neighborhoods. Our program partners include cities and towns surrounding the Woonasquatucket River, the Providence After School Alliance (PASA), local community centers and non-profits, local K-12 schools, colleges and universities. All of our educational programs on the lower river (in Johnston, North Providence and Providence) stem from a program called the “Dos and Don’ts of the Woonasquatucket River”, a public safety program developed in partnership with the United Stated Environmental Protection Agency. Additionally, we have developed and teach from “Fish in the Classroom,” “River Adventurers,” “Environmental Leaders,” “River Rangers Job Training,” and an “Active Watershed Education, It’s AWEsome!” curricula. The Education Intern will work in collaboration with the Education Director and WRWC staff to teach and improve upon our educational curricula and outreach materials and bring these programs to the community.

Position: Woonasquatucket River Greenway - Summer Greenway Assistant

The Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (WRWC) is seeking an individual with strong organizational and interpersonal skills, to be our 2017 Summer Greenway Assistant. This summer job will run for 6 weeks during July and August. The Greenway Assistant will report to the Greenway Program Director and assist with clerical and administrative needs of the Greenway Leadership Team, which oversees the River Rangers, Clean Days on the Greenway, and special projects happening along the Woonasquatucket River Greenway. The Greenway Assistant will be a counterpart to the River Rangers team and will also act as a steward of the Greenway, greeting people in the community and encouraging the appropriate use of this beloved outdoor space when in the field.

WRWC Background: The mission of the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (WRWC) is to encourage, support and promote the restoration and preservation of the Woonasquatucket River Watershed as an environmental, recreational, cultural, and economic asset of the State of Rhode Island.

Position Description: The Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (WRWC) is seeking a creative, detail-oriented person with strong communications and graphic de-sign skills to assist the Director of Development & Executive Director. This opportu-nity will provide valuable experience working on a variety of projects including help-ing to organize and run our two key fundraisers, the Clean Days on the Greenway & 8th Annual Woony River Ride. It will include communicating with the press, public, through the web and social media, as well as helping to organize the volunteer events committee. You will work directly with the Director of Development, Executive Di-rector, the Woony Ride Committee, and staff.
